The Kamen Rider Fandom

February 6th, 2010

I’ve said this time and time again, yet all my efforts get ignored. This is the tokusatsu fandom. We have Godzilla,
Ultraman, Super Sentai, Metal Heros and a giant list of series, shows and movies that constantly get ignored
because the ONE franchise that seems to always steal their attention is Kamen Rider.

There are many Tokusatsu films and shows each and every year that get little to no attention at all which is really
pretty pitiful for a fandom with so much to choose from. Its now to the point where the series that runs side by side
with Kamen Rider is getting little to no attention or even as much thought put into it where as Kamen Rider is
the “Gold Card” of that company’s part of the genre.

Come the fuck on. I’m not blaming any particular person. I’m just saying. Where is the love for the other parts of
this genre? Why must Bugs in Spandex riding bikes get ALLLLL the attention while everything else gets pushed aside
like appetizers. This seriously needs to stop. Its almost at the point where Kamen Rider has reached the ranks of
Stephanie Mayers Twilight franchise but of a different genre.

If you think this blog is complaining about how Ultraman gets little to no attention you’re more naive then I thought.
This isn’t just about Ultraman. This about anything that isn’t at all related to Ishinomori’s Kamen Rider.Even the one person
in this fandom who is known to be “Famous Kamen Rider Master” who even though it seems like he/she favors Kamen
Rider is a fan of quite a handful of other things in this genre.

Stop ignoring the Independant Projects as well, sure the people who do them aren’t Toei and don’t pull a huge budget
out of their ass to make films of this genre of which they love, but that does not mean they have to be pushed aside
more than a lot of the genre itself.

Even the Kaiju/Eiga part of the genre is being pushed aside for Kamen Rider, yet if it wasn’t for the Kaiju part of
this genre we would not have a big part of what makes this genre so special compared to most recent movies and tv.

Before I carry this blog out any further I just want to thank everybody who made my other few blogs so successful.
I’m proud they got as much debate and responce as they did but there will be more on that on a blog about myself soon
enough.

Tokusatsu Fandom, Don’t Fail me now.

Ok this is going to be my last blog yelling at the tokusatsu fandom for 2009.

In 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004 the fandom mainly had one spot to commute known only as “Japan Hero.com”
Owned by a very awesome person by the name of Jeff, Well a lot of time has passed and JapanHero rarely gets any
mention in fandom discussions and in stuff in general but back in the “Japan Hero Days” The Tokusatsu fandom was
in its complete prime, We had people who had their minds open so much it every snipit of information about any
tokusatsu series was like Christmas to them, No series got pushed away for something else, EVERYTHING had a
Discussion page about 30 pages or above.

Times Change.
In 2005 I took a break from the Tokusatsu fandom to try and get my life together. It was harsh but not as harsh as
what I came back to.

In 2006 It all changed. Series were always getting pushed away, Things always became more about 2 series then about
the whole package and people really started closing their minds and not really giving a shit about what else
this wonderful genre started to offer, its almost like a Nuke went off while I was gone and while one of the
greatest places on the internet to discuss such a genre sort of “Collapsed” that people stopped giving a shit
which really has started to disappoint a lot of the vet’s of this Genre Fandom as well as Myself.

Will 2010 see retribution of Open Minds? I really hope so, I really hope it becomes the “2nd Prime” for this great
fandom and that people will not toss everything else aside for 1 or 2 franchise series by one company.

It has gotten to the point where you need to push people to even open up to a series or a franchise.
sure they will say something like “Oh don’t have the time” or “Oh what is that?” but the more you push a person
the more likely they are willing to open there minds again to the point where when they see said series you open
to it will be like opening a fresh bag of candy to them and lately when it comes to this fandom its something that
A select few and Myself are starting to miss in this fandom that is popping up rarely lately.

When you join a fandom like this you shouldn’t just stick with the Bugs who ride motorcycles or the spandex heroes
in the different colors with the robot, you should be open to everything and I litterally mean everything. Its Like
when you go trick or treating, you don’t just get the same candy all the time, you get different candies at each
house you pass.

So all I’m saying is, Can we go back to the Mindset we had back in those days? Back when Jeff was our main man
and EACH AND EVERY series or movie got talked about and treated equally? Is that honestly to much to ask ladies and
gentlemen of the tokusatsu fandom? I really hope not.

Make it so.

Ultraman For Dummies.

Ultra-Senshi are Alien’s from the M78 Galaxy also known as “The Galaxy of light” who are sentient species made out of pure photons who come to the Earth to fend away Kaiju and Aliens who threaten our planet with destruction or with other purposes. Due to Pollution in our atmosphere Ultra-heroes must take a Human host or be disguised as a human for most of the time when they are on the planet so that when the situation gets tough they will know when to transform into their respective form to fight a threat but can only be in their respective form for a short amount of time.

In just about each and every Ultra-Related series there is a team of scientists who use advanced technology and advanced weapons to fight those that threaten the earth and normally the human host or disguised ultra-hero is a member of those respected teams, they will know when the right time to transform is because a lot of time the advanced tech and weapons does damage to the threat that they are fighting.

There are many universe’s in Ultra-History, Some of them may seem like they all belong in One universe which lately is to be thought of with the recent movies that have come out or are coming out, Some said examples are “Superior Ultraman 8 Brothers” Which took place in an Alternate Original Universe with said characters as Daigo Madoka[Ultraman Tiga], Shin Asuka[Ultraman Dyna] And Gamu Takayama[Ultraman Gaia] Who play 3 best friends who grew up together watching the Showa Era Ultraman Series.

The next movie that is trying to pull all of the universe’s together as well as introduce new characters is titled “Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legend The Movie” Which is a mix of characters from Every ultraman they can pull out of the Catalog including A handful of Fodder Ultra-Acadamy Cadets as well as Two new Ultramen one that is likely to have his own series and another that will probably stay a movie exclusive, The one that is most likely to get a new series goes by the name of “Ultraman Zero” and has been confirmed to be the son of UltraSeven, The other is known as Ultraman Beilel who is like the Devil of M78 who gets loose somehow and plans his revenge.

There have been Two english Ultraman series not counting the dub of the Original Ultraman series from 1966 and the 4kids dub of 1996’s Ultraman Tiga. Ultraman Great which is a 1990 Australian production and Ultraman Powered which is a 1993 American production that surprisingly never saw the light of day in America.

The Ultra-Series and all of its spin-offs were created by Eiji Tsuburaya and Tsuburaya Productions. Aside from Ultraman, Eiji Tsuburaya is known for being the creater of one of the longest lasting kaiju tokusatsu’s around. The one and only Godzilla, who has had more movies then pretty much anything in japan.

I hope you enjoyed reading my guide to the Ultra-Series, I got inspired by this from a man named August Ragone and from The original ultraman being the first tokusatsu I saw back in 1992. From here on in you are ready to step out of Kamen Rider/Super Sentai and embrace that which is the warriors of light.
