Juken Sentai Gekiranger: Nei-Nei! Hou-Hou! Hong Kong Decisive Battle
By Gerald Conde
Summary
While in the middle of fighting, the Gekirangers and Mele are
being spied on. They are soon transported to Hong Kong, along
with Rio. Just as Rio and Jan were about to fight, they meet the
mysterious Lao Fan before seeing various other martial artists
around the world have been brought to the island as well. They
meet Miranda. She is the secretary to a media mogul named Yang,
who brought them all together for the Kenkonitteki Martial Arts
tournament to prove who's the strongest of them all. They combat
the martial artists and make it to a big meal at a banquet hall.
Yang Lo enters but Lao Fan leaves and Jan follows her. Ran,
Retsu, Rio, and Mele meet Yang Lo, he belittles them. Jan learns
Lao Fan actually is a member of the Hong Kong police. Yang
founded Mechung Fu and used his tournament to gather strongest
fighters as part of his plan to rule the world. He has found the
ideal Ki he needs: the Ki of the JyuKen user. GekiBlue,
GekiYellow, Rio, and Mele attempt to fight off Miranda as Yang
goes to his base of operations. Jan and Lao eventually find Yang
Lo and they fight and arrest him. Jan comes up with Nei Nei! Ho
Ho!, working together, which makes Yang laugh. Miranda is killed
by Rio, but the Ki she collected transfers to Yang's computer and
it transforms Yang into a cyborg Beastman.
Lao Fan becomes injuried by Yang, makign Jan
angry. He transforms and fights Yang but is no use. Yang
transforms night to day and starts stealing everyone's Ki. The
Gekirangers battle Yang Lo, refusing to give up in spite of him
being stronger than them. He is seemingly destroyed, bringing
back the night, but Yan activates his giant robot Mechannon out
of a statue to terrorize the city. When GekiTohja proves no match
for Mechannon, Yang Lo tries to encourage Rio and Mele to fight.
But it was Yang's offensive comments of the JyuKen, that they are
forced to help the Gekirangers by summoning RinLion and
RinChameleon to combine with GekiTohja to form GekiRinTohja to
destroy Mechannon, killing Yang in the process. Once the fight is
over, in spite of the Gekirangers amazement at the power of the
united JyuKen, Rio takes his leave with Mele telling them that
nothing changed between them. The next day at the airport, Lao
thanks the Gekirangers as they were about to leave for Japan when
Miki, Natsume, and Sha-Fu arrive for a vacation in Hong Kong, and
haul them around.
My Opinion
This concept was fierce, pun and annoying Project Runway
catch-phrase intended. At a slim half-hour, it should have been
an hour long, as Japanese children's movies are that long. The
movie is very glossy and extravagant, it would have been suited
for a hour or even ninety minutes. Surprisingly, it does not feel
rushed, but it does feel short. There are parts that feel like
there was more footage but they had to cut it. The main team
traveling to another place is not rare in movies, but most of
them go to another dimension like Gaoranger or Gekiranger's
processor Go-Onger. Going to Hong Kong is rarest of all, and a
welcomed treat, as China is one of the inspirations to
Gekiranger. This movie is really rare as not all the warriors
from the series are in the movie, that being that the movie came
out before GekiViolet and GekiChopper were introduced. Being as
that many of the recent movies since Gaoranger include a
movie-exclusive robo combination, it is obvious they want to show
off GekiRinTohja.
Conclusion
Great, should have been longer. Worth a look, doesn't take that
long to see it anyway, but to completely comprehend it, you gotta
see the show.
