Hurricanger: Shushutto the Movie

Summary
Tenkujin zooms by, being followed by an attacking Tricondor. Shurikenger wonders why they are following him. Shurikenger asks, 'why?' We see Burizaaru (blizzard), a green clunky monkey in the cockpit. Hizaaru (fire), the talker, cackles as they shoot Shurikenger. He looks at the moving brown burlap bag on the floor. The bag has blue letters and a red symbol. The Hurricanger trio watch Oboro's monitors. Guinea pig tells them to go. The trio goes outside and exclaims, "Shinobi Change!" A spin of the Shinobi Medal and a whirlwind makes the movie title appear. They rip through the screen like it was paper and jump onto horses. Hurricane Red on a white horse and the others are brown ones. They ride through the beautiful scenery. The Tenkujin escapes the chase and gets behind the Tricondor to shoot at it. Shurikenger believes it blew up but in reality it split apart. It came back together and it made a slash attack with its two back wings upon the Tenkujin. Smoke comes out of his mecha as Shurikenger hollers, "Oh my god!" It falls. The Hurricanger watched from their horses. The monkeys, Uchu Shinobi Zaru celebrate. A knife rips through the bag and the Princess comes out. She used her pendent as a knife. She pushes Hizaaru down and he indivertibly moves the controls. Tricondor crashes on a hill. Our trio goes to it. Princess holds onto her pendent. The seat in the cockpit has "Bride" on it repeatedly.

Tricondor disappears. The princess and the monkeys are outside. She runs away. They chase the princess and she gets away. The Hurricanger look at the crash site. They split up and power down. Red comes forward. Princess gasps and then nods. "Icamo," she whispers. In a slow motion sequence, heavenly music plays and wind blows as Yousuke and the princess stand there gazing at each other. Her name is Raiina Hime. Slow motion. She says the first words. She grabs him. He is stern with her. Hurricane Blue and Yellow literally drop in. It seems they found the monkeys and fought them. The Uchu Shinobi Zaru introduce themselves. Yousuke swears that he will protect the princess. He jumps up and transforms into Hurricane Red. He gets the bust of the alien primates. Raina jumps for joy and is astounded. Yousuke is in shock. The monkeys take advantage of the distraction and beat the four up. Burizaaru snaps off the Raina's pendent and makes off with it. She tries to go after it but our trio pulls her away. They escape in a blaze of smoke. The simians hop away. The Kasami brothers come from behind a huge rock observing.

In the Hayate base, the spoiled brat-ways have begun. Once she learned his name, Raina shills in her squeaky child voice demands for Yousuke. Nanami gets up from the chair next to her and teases Yousuke, who is bored on the Oboro's computer. He grabs his head, rustling his hair and yells. Raina grabs the hamster. Oboro, Kouta, and Nanami's jaws drop in shock and they protest. Blissfully unaware of the damage, Raina puts the animal down on the desk and goes over to her beloved, "Yousuke!" Mugensai is human again due to her kiss, he is even surprised himself, sitting on the computer table. He gets up and they all look at him. Oboro hugs her father. Kouta looks at the bored Yosuke and the demanding Raina on the large couch. He protests to her wants. She gets angry and storms out the base into the cave. She drops yet another toy. Nanami walks up to the base's opening.  She picks up the small toy; it is a star. Nanami sits down next to Yousuke. They hear a little voice. Nanami looks down in her hands at the star. It grows up into a small star robot, Nakkuru. It goes after his princess. Kouta stops it by grabbing on to its legs. Nakkuru strains. Little Nintendo sounds start to sound. Kouta gains control and the bitty bot informs them.

As Nakkuru narrates as we see Raina at a waterfall where she tosses a rock. Nakkuru mentions the Jakanja. We then pleasantly see Ikkou's butt come on the screen, as the Kasami brothers watch Raina. She picks up a bunch of dead grass, puts it next to her headdress gem, sets it down and flowers grow out of it. She is from the Asutoramu forth planet. She smiles. At the Centipede, the Uchu Shinobi Zaru present themselves to Manmaruba, Sargain, Satorakura, Furabiijou, Wendinu, and Tao Zanto. Wendinu is weary. Satorakura goes near them and imitates what the Hizaaru's mannerisms. They laugh, "hee hee." With a wave of a hand, the Jakanja symbol screen shows a temple on an island. Tao Zanto acknowledges it. Burizaaru blows an ice power from his mouth freezing the Jakanja. The monkeys bounce out. Fade to black. It's nighttime at a foyer with hanging lights in a net outdoors. The Kasumi brothers talk to Raina. She runs past them and holds onto her chest. The monkeys appear and grab Raina. Hizaaru blasts fire on the boys. Our trio comes running. "Yousuke!" the princess yells. Yousuke shouts for her. Nanami and Kouta pick up the two. The Hurricane Gyro signals and Oboro talks to them. Nakkuru is hooked up to her computer with a wire and it finds the location of the island. "Monsoiu," Oboro says. Yousuke requests Ikkou and Isshu to help. Ikkou thinks about it, he brings forth his fist and folds it in They all nod. The five bring their hands together in a circle and get pumped up.

Underwater, Hurricane Dolphin swims with its bright headlights on. The four boys are inside the cockpit with Nanami driving. We hear Nakkuru's voice. Close up of each member. They head forth the island where the temple is. It is a baize mud rock in shape of a person with scorpion-like legs sticking outward. Inside the temple, we see the monkeys have Raina tied on a cross with chains. A futile elaborate device with 3 barrels tied together in front and 10 barrels encircle the crucified victim. Hizaaru starts a spark that will lead to the barrel going blow up. She bares her face away. The five arrive at the island from the sea. The Hayate ninjas put their ninja masks on. The brothers have no masks; they just adjust their gloves and weapons. The simians see the heroes through a magical screen inside the temple. Burizaaru sends for the Magerappa. The five ninja fight the Magerappa. Manmaruba, Wendinu, and Furabiijou appear. The brothers transform into the Goraijer and do their roll call. Manmaruba takes his cloak off. Kabutoraijer and Manmaruba jump on to their respectable bikes. Kabutoraijer brings forth his Horn Breaker, shoots his opponent and he fell. Wendinu attacks Kuwagataraijer with her 'giant' illusion trick swiping her hand and blowing him. Then Furabiijou lets out a laser from her mouth, grabbing Isshu and tossing him in the water. The two girls put their hands together and blast a different attack onto Isshu in the water. An explosion is caused. The girls applaud themselves. Isshu come out and does his horn laser trick blasting the girls. Wendinu falls to her knees, has a tar face and smokes comes out of her face. Furabiijou also has a charred face, blows smoke out of her face, smiles, sighs and falls backwards.

The first barrel blows up. Sargain and Satorakura confront the Hurricanger. Suddenly they hear a helicopter sound. Shurikenger comes out of his Tenkujin and tells the trio he'll take care of it. The trio leaves him alone. He presents himself. Satorakura does a spell that brings forth masks and they float in the air. Kekkaibo (first enemy), Kurisottsuba (Clone guy), Kuttsukuhoushi (Cicada), Higenamazukin (Mustache-dancing guy), and Futabutabo (Pig) appear with masks on. Shurikenger bellows, "What?" He never seen them before anyway. Shurikenger dons his fire mode. He frightens the monsters. He does his baseball attack and they disappear. Shurikenger them hits Sargain and Satorakura and they retreat. Meanwhile, the trio goes to a bridge. They yell as they run. The second barrel blows up. Raina screams. Hizaaru calls upon an attack. His eyes glow blue. A pretty fire appears. Out of the sky above the trio, a fire falls down on them. They fall off the bridge but they hang on to it with their ninja hooks. Hizaaru attacks them and they fully fall into the water. Raina cries, "Yousuke!" The third barrel explodes. Now there is only the ten barrels that surround her. At a shore of the river, the trio lay hurt on the rocks. They groan as they get up. They say they will continue to fight. They get up and transform. Yousuke shakes as he says, "Shinobi Change." They get onto their Hurricane Wingers and fly toward the temple. The Hurricanger arrive to the temple. Red swoops inside and cuts the chains off Raina with his Hayatemaru. Fire from the ten surrounding barrels connects to the cross. A big explosion is caused Yousuke and Raina jump away from it. Of course they aren't hurt. Raina gazes at the cross and the symbolism as the cross burns with flaring flames. Yousuke takes his visor off and asks her if she is okay. They face the monkeys. Hizaaru shoots fire to the ceiling and the building collapses. They get out and away. The building explodes. The four jump out of the building onto the beach. The trio gives Raina a pep talk and then leaves her to go out fight. The waves crash.

The Uchu Shinobi Zaru turn around and the trio are there with their corresponding sheets. They present themselves. The monkeys are clearly mad. Yousuke fights Hizaaru, he does the leave the faux suit trick and the ape falls for it. Blue does her walking on the water trick and splashes Hizaaru with water. Yellow fights Burizaaru. He blows snow on him. Then there is eight Hurricane Yellows. They run around and encircle Burizaaru. Kouta's squeals sound like the screaming from a fast carnival ride. The eight yellows and the two individual Red and Blue against the monkeys. Burizaaru gets down on his knees and with Hizaaru forms a cannon. They blast the Hurricanger and the ten of them back away. The Hurricanger fight the apes in silhouettes, all black, no colors. Our trio call upon their weapons and throw them in sky in a unique sequence. The three gadgets get together in the air and form the Dry Gadget. Say bye-bye! Big explosion. Raina's pendent drops next to her feet on the beach rocks and it returns to her hands. The bruised simians get up and combine into a giant, Ashurazaaru. The six get together and call upon the Shinobi Machines. They all appear together. The Sempujin, Gouraijin, and Tenkujin are formed. They bring out their respective Karakuri ball weapons, the Sword Slasher, Plant Axe and Spin Bee. Raina is surprise to see the same Karakuri system. The three mecha attacks with their weapons with a blast and Ashurazaaru returns it back to them. The heroes yell. Raina calls upon her pendent and it glows. The three Karakuri balls appear, red, blue and green. Yousuke gasps. The balls hit Ashurazaaru and bring it down.

"Karakuri ball," Ikkou strikingly gasp. The three balls burst, the three pieces are out and combine into Tricondor. Raina introduced it to the gang. The three mecha combine to make Tenraisempujin. The six magically appear in the cockpit. Oboro is shocked. Nakkuru is happy. Mugensai suspects a connection. Ashurazaaru pops out a flame sword. Tenraisempujin uses it shuriken as a sword and fight. The six calls upon a skill, the Tenraisempujin creates a invisible shield and then its whirlwind attack. The face of the robot growls showing off its pointy metal teeth. The whirlwind picks up Ashurazaaru and it explodes up in the air. Raina is content. Yousuke's visor slides off and he smiles. She only acknowledges him. Later at the beach shore, the five say farewell to Raina, the duo behind the trio. She salutes them. Nakkuru comes up and becomes her star-shaped wrist bracelet. Raina goes inside the Tricondor. The group comment on her crush on Yousuke but he just smiles. Inside the cockpit the princess presses a bounce of buttons in an unbelievable manner, the buttons weren't clearly there. The inside of her cockpit is completely different than the Tenraisempujin cockpit it has her symbol there. The Tricondor lifts off. They say goodbye. There is a good aerial shot of the five and it rotates. The Princess waves goodbye, "Arigato Yousuke."

My Opinion
 Yet another Sentai movie that has no relation to the episodic storyline. But these movies could at least have some close relation to the story format or plot. This movie, unlike last year's Gaoranger: Fire Mountain Howls, is given a grander look, a movie feel if you will. It could be said that this film is much more product placement in this one. Also, the movie is a bit of summary of the show to introduce new fans. It is set somewhere around episode 36 and it shows off every device except for Kuwagataraijer's bike, the Ikazuchimaru's modes and the Double Gadget. It is interesting to see a spaceship chase scene much like Star Wars in the opening. Shurikenger's voice actor is just delightful. The princess' name is Raina. The name could have close relation to Reina, which means queen in Spanish.

It was clear that Yousuke and Raina had some attraction. He never got a love interest ever in the show, not even a girl he had a crush on. She is also has a very irritating and grating voice. She is spoiled brat. It is funny how Yousuke can't stand it. Nakkuru is a cute little robot, probably to compensate it in some sadistic sentai way for no robot friend in the series. Since Mugensai doesn't become human ever between episodes 2 and 50, it is recompensed by a princess' kiss in this outer space fairy tale in a ninja series. Like the trio like to say, "Ehhhhh?" The monkeys are nicely designed but Burizaaru howling sure is annoying, sounding like a donkey braying.

Wendinu's illusion of showing her hand and her big head blowing is much more ridiculous looking in this movie. Since it is wide screen and perhaps the producers used the same length of the clips of her arm and face, it looks much more cheesy. The ends are her arms are faded so it looks like it is sticking in the air. Her face floats in the air. At least it has a better quality then Satan's head in the sky in Zyuranger. What does please me about the feature is seeing Hurricane Yellow's multiples staying a bit longer to back away and pose with the others. That's a lot of stuntmen in yellow spandex! Additionally, like any other teamup or movie, we see past enemies… but these fight Shurikenger and they came before his time. That probably happened because at the production time, they only had those costumes. My other quarrel is why did our Jakanja appeared without explanation after the monkeys froze them? Anyhoo, it is a half hour.

As we all know the Tricondor was first introduced in the movie. It has nothing to do with the series. Perhaps that is the reason there is a movie edition toy. This Tricondor belongs to Raina and is powered by her pendent. The monkeys are Jakanja, who attacked Raina's planet Asutoramu. So if there is Jakanja somewhere else, there should also be another Karakuri ball system. No surprise they are compatibility. This comes before the notion of Gozen, so it is unknown if she is responsible for that system or if there is another Gozen there. It's all guesswork because the movie is not suppose to go with the continuity, it is just a 'what if' story. The most fan indulgence is where the entire cast sings the theme song karaoke-style during the ending credits. Isshu has a nice singing voice. That most amusing moment is when Shurikenger buds into the song. When I say the entire cast, I mean it, Furabiijou, Wendinu, Oboro, Mugensai, Raina and Naruku and when I say the theme song, I mean the full-length song. Oh and did I mention they had a choreographed routine dance to it? The ending shows the same drape with the colors like the series finale but this time, it includes green. This feature was more upbeat than the GoGoV movie and less rushed than the Gaoranger movie.
