Magiranger vs. Dekaranger

Summary
Every ten years, the Ozu family has "Fantastic Happy Day," they are celebrating it with Hikaru in a restaurant. Houka takes out a broach her mother was wearing the last time. They beginning eating and the place starts shaking as a monster (Biljik) takes the building away and attacks the city. A woman tells them to calm down, she puts her hair up and reveals she is special police. Umeko! DekaBreak and Yellow are together in Machine Doberman and Biljik is a wanted criminal. Doggie tells him to be careful. Green comes by in Machine Bull and Blue in Machine Husky. They arrive at a site, Sen asks Umeko where she is and they discover she is inside. Bilijik is about to eat them. Umeko transforms and shoots the monster's feet. The Deka Machines wrap him up in yellow tape. The house goes flying out and DekaBikeRobo catches it. Bilijik is arrested and everyone applauds the Dekaranger. A foe Burbon watches from inside the wreckage and communicates to Agent X. Umeko berates Sen, as the others think they are just being lovey-dovey. Barbon destroys Bilijik and DekaBikeRobo falls down. The five blast at him but he absorbs their attacks. The Magiranger arrive. Makito mentions they are siblings and Umeko figures out they are the ones from the restaurant. Tetsu tells them to stand back since they are civilians, the Magiranger fight anyway. They do manage to hurt Burbon. The Dekaranger are about to attack but Shine tells them that he absorbs their attacks.

Houka becomes a cannon and launches Kai but he is stopped by Ban in his new Battlizer. Kai lands in debris. Ban and Kai fight. Ban blasts at Barbon and he absorbs the attack and pretends to die. The Dekaranger scold him and he says the armor is the Fire Squad's Battlized mode. He splits up into Murphy. Barbon rises and shoots at the twelve. He then takes MagiBlue and goes underground, Jasmine follows. Kai punches Ban and they fight. They split up by the boys. Tetsu asks Hikaru for details. The Dekaranger enter the secret headquarters, Mandora-boy and Smoky are not for strangers. Doggie informs the Dekaranger that Agent x hired Barbon. Ban says they don't know his real name. His Fire Squad has chased him and he has learned from Agent Abrera, he is his successor. Agent X talks to Makito through his MagiPhone, which causes Ban to go mad. He tells them he wants the Flower of Heaven, a trade in an hour at the Mountain of Screams on Prison Island. They don't know what the Flower of Heavens is. In the Infreshia, Agent X faces Barbon and the imprisoned Urara. Vankyuria says he left the Infreshia and became an Alienizer. He says he learned from Agent Abruera. Memmy asks him what he plans to do with the Flower of Heaven. Just then, Deka Yellow arrives in Swat Mode and shoots them up.  she is taken down by Agent X and she reads his mind with her hand and sees death.

Kai and Ban want to argue but Swan enters. She says that Miyuki asked her to do her a favor. Doggie knows a curry chef who knows her and they became friends. She tells the Ozu siblings of a snowy night Miyuki showed them the broach, that it is a secret treasure of Magitopia. Every ten years, something terrible happens, it will do evil. The stone must be flooded with love. She is asking them just in case, they are humble, she says they are the happiest couple she knows. They deny it but agree to do it. Fantastic Happy Day was made to flood the broach with happiness. She didn't believe anything would happen to Miyuki, so she refused and gave it back. Tsubasa goes to the picture of his family and says she knew she wouldn't be there. Ban grabs the broach and Kai gets upset. Umeko tells Ban to understand how Kai feels, thinking Fire squad change him. Houji is sure the Magiranger can help since magic can only beat Barbon. Swan suggests Ban and Kai work together. Sen gets in his thinking pose, saying that Barbon didn't like little girls but Tetsu and Hikaru are perfect. Urara takes down a Zobiru and bonds with Jasmine in their captive cage. Jasmine says she hasn't seen her family in years and they think she is strange because she is psychic. They want to see her now, but she is still hurt.

Urara encourages her to see her family. Barbon tells them to stand up. Travelion arrives on the Island. Tetsu and Hikaru dress as women, while the others walk and talk through the island. Houka and Umeko talk about her canceled wedding. she says not to think things through, that is not what family is for. Houji wonders if Mari's picture is around Ban's neck and bugs him about wedding bells. Kai calls him irresponsible and that he doesn't want to work with him. Houji and Tsubasa both are bugged by them but admire them. Barbon waits with Jasmine and Umeko, Hikaru and Tetsu approach them. They claim to be Ozu cousins. Barbon gets turned on at his ideals. The three leave, but their wigs come off. As the teams save the girls, Barbon questions the two 'ladies' as they run off. He chases them and blasts at them and the Brooch flies into his hands. The Reds fight him and take back the brooch. Agent X arrives and blasts at the Reds. Ban's necklace goes down. Kai opens it to find an alien family. Their lives were taken by Agent X, Ban was in charge of the case. Kai and Ban hide behind a rock and he explains he didn't want to see a saddened family again, that's why he is working hard. Kai's view on him has changed.

They are blast at and Agent X takes the brooch from Kai. He blasts them but they are saved by Doggie. Doggie becomes Deka Master and presents himself. Wolzard appears and presents himself. The island is about to collapse. Barbon and Agent X leave on their ship through a portal. The other heroes leave as Wolzard and Master fight. The mountain explodes. The two warriors combat with their fires and are equally matched. Wolzard retreats and the island sinks. Agent X puts the brooch in a special place to transform his robot. He makes the sky to night as Travelion returns to the city. The two teams gather. Jasmie's vision comes true as Agent X blasts the Earth from outside. The Dekaranger tell the Magiranger not to get involved, they each plead to their counerpart that they must do this. Ban calls them amateurs, but then partners. They put their hands together and then transform. DekaWing and MagiLegend arrive. They fire at the foes and go down to Earth. MagiKing, DekarangerRobo, DekaBikeRobo, and Travelion fight the villain. They destroy the robot and the two foes jump out with the brooch. The twelve do their roll call. Vankyuria and the Zobiru arrive. MagiYellow, Green, Deka Blue, and Green fight Zobiru. DekaBreak and MagiShine fight Barbon and defeat him with a special attack with DekaBreak inside of the MagiLampBuster. The girls fight Vankyuria and she sends them to a special dimension. Nai and Mea switch SPD outfits. Jasmine and Umeko are not so thrilled. Umeko and Houka change to SPD outfits. Nai and Mea are in Magi uniforms. They snap Vankuyria into a bathrub and send her flying away. The Reds go on the Magi Trapeze and blast at Agent X. MagiRed becomes Legend MagiRed and DekaRed dons his Battlizer. They do a combine attack and defeat Agent X. Kai gets a hold of the brooch and the twelve use the power of the brooch to defeat the two enemies.

Back at headquarters, the teams celebrate. Ban says that in ten years, they might have families of their own: with Mari and Yamazaki. Houji and Tsubasa push them off. He teases Makito and they all rough house. Swan tells Doggie that families are fun. Houka tries to have Sen and Umeko together. Jasmine supposes she will call her family, Umeko cheers her. Tetsu tells Hikaru that he thinks of the Earth Branch as his family. The Brooch then gives each of them a sunflower, filled with Miyuki's voice. It is the Flower of Happiness. Her musical angel starts playing. Everything goes dark and everyone is silent. Each member shows us their flower, wishing happiness and to share with others.

My Opinion
The whole special is really nice and does carry the spirit of both series, but does have its own spirit. It has its own cohesion and mix. Magiranger and Dekaranger are so distinctly different, it is a welcome surprise they mix well. At least they didn't go to the typical route and have the police un-believing in magic. Swan mentions a curry shop owner, could it be Abaranger's Dino House? This special also provides some canon with Mari Gold from the Dekaranger movie. When I first saw this special, I thought the ending was a bit strange, but it indeed is a welcomed difference from the other action-packed children series with mindless violence. It is also great to see Wolzard up against Deka Master, unfortunately only for a few minutes, but you get what you can. And the scene with Nai and Mea switching outfits with the girls was transparent exploitation. It is also strange to see them mourning Miyuki, the special was shown after the Magiranger series ended and we knew Miyuki was not really dead. But, anyway, I guess it goes in the middle of the series, since it takes place in October. Some Sentai purists were not happy with a Power Ranger item, the Battlizer, be in the special. And some Power Ranger purists didn't like how the Battlizer was portrayed in this special. This is technically the first hero item that has been adapted from the adaption, Power Rangers. And did it have to be the Cyber Diaper with the mutilated dog to be adapted?

Conclusion
Great for both Dekaranger and Magiranger fans alike. Not sure about Power Ranger fans.
